Please read the following "Volunteer Driver Orientation checklist" and check the box by each confirming that you have read and understand the content. Please feel free to contact the Meals on Wheels office at (813) 782-7859.
If you cannot drive your route on a particular day, please call our office as soon as you know, no later than 2:00 pm the day before, so that we can arrange for a substitute driver.
When picking up your meals for delivery please make sure to count your meals and desserts to make sure that they match your client count in your book. It is easier to add a meal to your route before you leave the building, than to find out while you are out on delivery. If you find that you are short meal(s) please contact the office as soon as possible so that one can be prepared before the kitchen closes for the day.
All drivers must use the hot and cold coolers for transporting meals for food safety purposes. Small trays are to be used to carry meals to the client's door for delivery.
If a client is not home at the time of delivery, but have left instructions for you to put their meal in their cooler with ice pack inside, you may do so. DO NOT LEA VE MEAL if there is no ice pack or food appropriate receptacle!! Bring the meal back to office.
If you have reason to suspect a serious medical emergency with a recipient and are unable to make contact by calling their personal phone number, and know the client is in fact in the residence, please call "911 After contacting "911", then contact the emergency contact person listed on the client's page in the route book. If you cannot contact the emergency contact person, immediately contact the MOW office to notify them of the medical emergency. Whenever you have non—emergency concerns about a recipient, call the emergency contact person to find out information needed regarding the client's wellbeing.
Volunteers may not conduct any type of political campaigning, proselytizing, or marketing during the volunteer time they donate to the organization.
Volunteers may not give or loan money to recipients, accept tips, or provide transportation during the volunteer time they donate to the organization.
A Volunteer's personal car insurance is the primary coverage while driving for East Pasco Meals on Wheels, Inc.
A Volunteer's job is to deliver a meal only to our clients; the volunteer is not to help with personal care, medications, personal finances or any other personal need/contact other than delivery of their meal during the time that they donate to the organization. If a client has a special need, you can call the office and the staff will call the appropriate contact person to help the client with the immediate needs they may have.
Volunteers are to guard themselves against personal liability by not allowing themselves too much access to our client's home and their possessions. Do not enter home without permission and only take the necessary steps needed to place the meal in a safe place for the client.
